Enthusiasts will prefer the 6-speed manual transmission, but the responsive 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual will probably offer better performance. Audi claims a zero-to-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, and the top speed is 174 mph.

Buick revealed the 2012 Regal with eAssist, a hybrid powertrain consisting of the 182-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, now aided by an electric motor that adds 15 horsepower and 79 lb-ft of torque. The maker oh this auto promises a 25 percent fuel-economy improvement to an expected 28 mpg city/37 mpg highway. Unlike Buick’s LaCrosse with eAssist, which is priced the same as a similarly equipped gas model, the Regal with eAssist will cost more when it goes on sale this fall.
