Mercedes-Benz F125! Concept
About Mercedes-Benz F125! Concept
The Mercedes-Benz F125! Concept may be a sneak-peak at a future S-Class, but not one that’ll hit roads in the next few years. Instead, the so-called research vehicle, which debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, is the company’s vision of what an S-Class sedan could look like in model year 2025.Mechanically speaking, the body structure itself is as advanced as the styling. The F125! Is built primarily from a mixture of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), aluminum, and high-strength steel in order to keep weight low. Mercedes-Benz says the entire body shell tips the scales at 551 pounds, which is reportedly 40 percent less than a contemporary S350.Engineers also worked to encompass a hydrogen storage tank into the floor structure of the F125!
Land Rover Defender DC100 Concept
About Land Rover Defender DC100 Concept
“Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world,” Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s director of design, said in a prepared release. “It is a car that inspires people world wide. This isn’t a production-ready concept, but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century.”Speaking of that four-year journey, Land Rover used the release of this teaser image to also publicly confirm it intends on launching a new Defender around the world in 2015. Officials say they hope to use this concept to engage with customers on what features should be included in the actual production vehicle. So, then, it’s up to you — the fans, the enthusiasts, the Defender die-hards — to voice your opinion. Is Land Rover on the right track? Should the DC100.
Ferrari 458 Spider
About Ferrari 458 Spider
There’s a new way to get sunburned in a Ferrari, as the Italian maker of exotics has announced the 458 Spider, a convertible version of the 458 Italia. The Ferrari 458 Spider is mechanically identical to the Italia coupe. As in the 458 Italia, the Spider’s heart is a 4.5-liter V-8 engine with 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to the rear wheels. Ferrari says the 458 Spider can hit 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and attain a top speed of over 198 mph.The roof is made from aluminum and reportedly weighs 55 pounds less than a comparable fabric top. It folds into a space in front of the engine in just 14 seconds (check out the video below to see the roof in action). The roof doesn’t actually fold, instead rotating into the decklid just like the convertible roof on the old Ferrari 575M Superamerica.
Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale
About Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale
For all the hype surrounding the new Aventador LP 700-4, you might have forgotten that Lamborghini still builds the Gallardo supercar. There is now yet another variant of the Gallardo, baptized LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale and unveiled to the public at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car’s suffix succinctly explains its purpose: Super Trofeo refers to the one-make European racing series featuring the Lamborghini Gallardo, while Stradale is Italian for road. This car, then, is a road-going Gallardo inspired by the Super Trofeo race cars.
Lamborghini says the 5.2-liter V-10 seen in this road car is almost identical to that used in the racer. It produces 562 hp at 8000 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6500 rpm. A six-speed e-gear automated manual transmission is standard, as is the Gallardo’s all-wheel-drive system. The transmission’s “Thrust Mode” raises engine revs to 5000 rpm for rapid standing-start launches. As to performance benchmarks, Lamborghini claims the Super Trofeo Stradale will reach 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, 124 mph in 10.4 seconds, and accomplish a top speed of 198.8 mph.
Jaguar C-X16 Concept
About Jaguar C-X16 Concept
The car is Jaguar’s shortest lengthwise since the XK120 of the 1950s, and is about a foot shorter than the current XK range. The C-X16 measures 175 inches long, 81 inches wide, and 51 inches tall — approximately on par with the dimensions of a Nissan 370Z. Curb weight is a claimed 3520 pounds. With carbon-fiber components, an aluminum chassis, a hybrid drivetrain, and stunning aluminum body work, the Jaguar C-X16 concept is one of the most dramatic debuts at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The official word is that the C-X16 is simply a way for Jaguar to demonstrate its future design and technology plans, but there are strong hints this car may make it to production. “The C-X16 is our compelling vision for a 21st century Jaguar sports car,” said Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark. “It delivers an irresistible proposition on both emotional and rational levels.”The Jaguar C-X16 is a traditional two-seat, rear-wheel-drive coupe. The styling could be likened to a scaled-down Jaguar XK, and also shows hints of design from the XF and XJ. A long hood slopes into the car’s nose and gaping front grille. Big creases extend along the car’s sides and into its muscular rear shoulders — broad, rounded haunches are a Jaguar coupe signature. The roofline slopes fastback-style toward a tail that narrows slightly. Jaguar describes the car’s profile as exhibiting a “double coke-bottle” curve and says the tail mimics an airplane wing.
